Conservative party policy on Trident nuclear weapons

In the 2010 general election the Conservative Party Manifesto said -

"We support the decision to renew Britain’s submarine-based nuclear deterrent, based on the Trident missile system."

The Conservative Defence spokeperson, Liam Fox, has said that they will replace Trident with a submarine-based nuclear force with one submarine on patrol at all times.

Conservative MSPs voted against the Scottish Parliament motion in June 2007 which called on the UK Government not to go ahead with their plan to replace Trident.

In a debate in the Scottish Parliament on 17 January 2008, Conservative MSPs voted against a resolution which opposed the construction of new nuclear power stations in Scotland.
